Rampant construction of permanent structures along the proposed highway

ITANAGAR, Sept 19: The local people in Lower Subansiri district have been resorting to rampant construction of permanent structures along the proposed two-lane Trans-Arunachal Highway (TAH) since its announcement by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on January 31, 2008, alleged Kurung Kumey Zilla Parishad chairperson Sangha Tagik.

Such a wrong trend, particularly 73 km point to Deed and NEEPCO to Hapoli with the sole intention of claiming higher compensation should be discouraged, particularly by the district administration which regrettably has been turning a blind eye instead of halting the illegal constructions for reasons best know to them, Tagik said in a statement.

If we are behaving in such a manner, the process of development would be retarded with the GoI refusing to pay the astronomical compensation which would lead to claim and counter claims and cause inordinate delay.

“Therefore, the state government, particularly the district administration should notify that any construction along the right of way of the TAH after 31.01.08 would not be entitled to compensation claim. Action should be taken immediately as ‘a stitch in time saves nine,” he added.

The 20-km portion of TAH from Koloriang is yet to begin, he claimed, and wondered why the Border Roads Organisation has delayed the execution. The work should begin immediately in Koloriang, Sangram and Palin towns as the district administration has already handed over the required land for the purpose.

Awareness must to preventnon-communicable diseases

The threat non-communicable diseases (NCDs) poses in Nepal, especially in cities, will probably grow without a more forceful health response, say health experts.

An estimated 50 percent of all deaths in Nepal are caused by NCDs every year - 8 percent more than a decade ago, according to data compiled in 2011 by the World Health Organization (WHO); the top killers are cardiovascular disease, followed by diabetes, cancer, chronic respiratory disease and road accidents.

Up until recently, Nepal, like many other low and middle-income countries, struggled primarily with communicable disease killers including HIV, malaria, measles and tuberculosis. And while these and other infectious diseases still exact their fatal toll, it is increasingly high blood pressure, heart attacks and traffic accidents sending people to health centres.

Reckless drivers, poor maintenance of vehicles and even poorer roads help contribute to more than 10,000 injuries and nearly 2,000 deaths annually, according to the government.

While death looms for individuals stricken by an NCD, the financial burden falls on the whole family - and survivors as the case may be sometimes - according to a 2011 World Bank report on NCDs in South Asia.

However, the experts feel that massive health awareness campaign in the country is the need of the hours  to control the rise of NCDs in both the cities and villages.

Protect and preserve beauty of capital

Dear Editor,

The beauty of twin capital city is getting ruined  with every passing day and years. Historically important places like Itafort and famous legendary Gekar Siyni(Ganga Lake) is on the verge of extinction, owing to the massive illegal land encroachment. Once this historical monument and legendry Gekar siyni was the socio-culture sentinel of the local people of Ita-Yoppa, Ganga, Chimi, Dava, Mob Ita-Jullang, Chimpu, Kaungkra, Lekhi, Sood, Burum, Jajili, Nyorch etc. All this was part of faith and belief, no one dare to deface and damage these two places. Today road and recreation parks in all the sectors of the twin capital complex are almost extinct and the right of way (ROW) is disappearing leading to traffic congestion. Road network is worthless for pedestrian and vehicle movement. Cleaning of garbage and sanitation condition of the town capital city is worst; there are no methods to regulate it.

The statue of father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi was shifted out from Mahatma Gandhi Park, Bank Tinali by the urban department. Instead of it, a parking lot has been constructed at the same place.

The purpose of the land donated for the establishment of the capital complex in Itanagar by the local people was only for public utility in the interest of the state and its people but not for unplanned growth of city with lot of illegalities committed by the vested interest people in nexus with ruling class, officers and student leaders of the state. We the land donors request all right minded pan Arunachlee citizen to preserve and protect the serenity of twin capital complex for good living.

Yours,

Techi Tamin

President,

Establish a health centre at Hollongi

Dear Editor,

Through your esteemed daily, I would like to focus the kind attention of the Department of Health Service, Papum Pare District, Govt, of Arunachal Pradesh towards the grievances of the people of Hollongi due to non - availability of health services at grassroot level such as Health Sub - Centre, Primary Health Centre and so on. The nearest Community Health Centre (CHC) of the area established at Balijan is not easily accessible during emergency cases like pregnancy, minor and major physical injuries especially for people of Hollongi and Kokila areas. There are four major rivers that transverse the road for Hollongi and seven rivers for kokila. All the rivers are without  single bridge.

This poses the greatest obstacle during rainy season. Though there are many health services providers in the neighboring areas like Gohpur (Assam) but, they are too expensive. The renowned R.K. Mission Hospital, Itanagar is far and tiresome journey in terms of its distance from Hollongi coupled with bad road condition. The Department concerned is earnestly requested to look into the public grievances associated with absence of health services providers by immediately establishing one Primary Health Centre (PHC) if not at least one Health Sub - Centre at Hollongi keeping in mind the ever increasing human population in particular and strategic importance of the area in general.

Yours,

Kuru Joram

Unfair criticism

Dear Editor,

This is in response to a letter that appeared in Reader’s Forum of your esteemed daily on 19.09.13 titled- “Illegal activities in the name of festival” sent by A. Lego. I appreciate her efforts for a cleaner society but at the same time advise to go ahead with right spirit & sanctity in mind.

The letter speaks a lot about ill feeling towards puja ceremony. One must think twice before commenting on something which is linked with sentiments of a whole community. I know merry making follows after a hectic daylong or weeklong puja celebration but strip dancing inside a puja pandal is unthinkable. I advise writer to respect sentiment of others too.

Yours,
